In January 12, 2018, in the São Francisco Community – between the municipalities of Manacapuru and Novo Airão the police made anownership repossession action, destroyed 80 houses, the crops and the electric and water systems. All these were built by the blood and sweat of the 180 peasant families who lived there for over 15 years.

This repossession was supposed to happen in December 19, but the peasants resisted in a big demonstration and prevented the police to enter the area and evict the people. The peasants resisted the day before, January 11, placing a burning barricade in a bridge – the only access to the area – to prevent the entrance of the policemen.

The ownership repossession benefits the landlord’s company Agropecuária Exata which is mentioned in the fraud lawsuit filled by the Public Prosecution against Sudam (superintendency of development of the Amazon) scandals. The action reveals that the company Amazonas Ecopeixe had received R$ 33 million from Sudam in 1998 to buy the slaughterhouse Santa Maria and the former principal and governor Amazonino Mendes/PDT was involved. This Amazonas Ecopeixe company, the biggest dennounced by this lawsuit is controlled by the Agropecuária Exata company, which is property of Otavio Raman, who owns also the Raman Neves Communication Group, which runs a newspaper and a journalism TV program.

All this relations shows how the state and the landlords work together to maintain the semifeudal character of the country, all to produce commodities to imperialism, also maintaining the semicolonial character, all at the expense of the blood and sweat of the poor peasants.

But just as the justified resistance of the peasants inSão Francisco Community andalso in many other communities, settlements and revolutionary areas shows, only the resistance of the peasants organized for the Agrarian Revolution can bring a solution to the land question in Brazil, to destroy the latifundium and to give the land for the toiler. This is the first step the Brazilian people should take and is taking, to build a true democracy, the New Democracy.
