For more than a week, students in Izmir and Istanbul protested against the continuous increase in dormitory costs. After Erdogan held a cabinet meeting on the issue, police in both cities attacked students on the eighth day of protests. In Istanbul, they even stormed people's dormitories in the process.

Around 50 students were taken into custody in this attack. In Izmir, the police attacked the protest directly and also arrested around 50 students, especially those who shouted "We will win!" . In other places, such as Munzur University in Dersim, the struggle over dormitory rents had also come to a head and six students had been dismissed from their residences. Thus, a protest was held there as well, with more and more students joining. The police drove several forces in front of the dormitory, and finally even the governor of Dersim who had travelled there tried "convincing" in vain.

Meanwhile, police shot Suat Sahin, a 21-year-old man from the city of Batman, when he resisted a control resulting from a manhunt for him. Shot with two bullets, he was tied behind his back and driven in a civilian police vehicle towards the special hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
