On Saturday June 13, fighters attacked a convoy of military forces of Mali and one of troops form the UN-Mission, killing at least 26 soldiers.

 

The first encounter occurred about 100 kilometres from the border with Mauritania. Unidentified rebels ambushed a convoy of twelve vehicles, destroying four of them completely and killing at least 24 soldiers. According to reports of army officials eight soldiers survived the attack and were found the next day. There are no reports about losses at the side of the rebels.

 

This was the most intense attack on military forces in Mali since November 2019, when nearly 50 soldiers where killed in attack on a military post in Indelimane in the Menaka region.

 

The second convoy where attacked between the towns of Tessalit and Gao, in northwestern Mali. Also unidentified persons opened the fire on a logistical convoy of the UN-Mission MINUSMA. Two so called “UN-Peacekeepers” were killed. There are no reports of killed insurgents in this encounter either.

 

Due the MINUSMA (United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali) Mali is since 2013 occupied by more than 13.000 foreign soldiers and nearly 2.000 police forces from 33 countries, including imperialist military forces from Germany, France, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands and China and also police forces from the UK and the USA.
